Valentine's Poem #1

Day One

Oh honey my darling
How long has it been
Two hours or two minutes
Since last we shared skin
Since last we locked lips
And moved our hips
To the sweet rhythm of youth
And here’s the truth
How short the interval that we are apart
How short the moment of lustful art
Compared to the length of our lives
The length of these lies
These sweetest nothings
These bluffing everythings
Oh cry my darling
Cry me a river
I’m sure it will last past that shiver
That shake and sweat
The naughty little duet
That we sang in the echoes of a bedroom
Oh don’t fume
Don’t puff and pout
You knew what would come out
Of a Valentine’s rushed fling
It’s a short thing ---not my thing, that’s long
But rather the undoubtable and surefire hope
That I’d say yes to such a desperate grope
Such a lonesome look
Oh don’t make me the crook
Sweetheart you should’ve known
That needing a Valentine so badly
Makes the fault your own
