Valentine's Day Poem Final

Valentine's Day

It’s February 14th and love is in the air
Everyone’s got hearts in their eyes and my God I swear
If I see another couple playing tonsil hockey in the halls
I’m probably gonna have to go and punch some guy in the balls
Cause there’s no real sting so bitter as knowing
That when the day ends, you’re the only one going
Home to no one and nobody
While everybody else is sharing affection with their body
And somebody
And anybody… but me
Instead I’ll be binging Netflix on T.V.
Probably watching a rerun of Lie to Me
Because it’s plain to see
That there was a mistake in every heartbreak and every heartache
There was a liar and a cheat and some guy thinking with his meat
Instead of his head or his heart
So when can I start
When can I sort through the lies
And find my prize
The one and only
The one to show me
That love isn’t as hopeless as it was for Ted
He was even single when his best friends were wed
I mean am I going to have to search a lifetime for a lifeline
A small sign that designates that in time I’ll find that girl that becomes mine
Or can I?
Will I?
I have a finite amount of patience
And there’s an infinite number of patients
That have died from a broken heart
An unlucky start
And a missing part
I’m missing my art
My muse, my inspiration
That fuels my creation
To become more than an insane creator
Word maker-Poet-Writer
Person thing and such
Oh it’s too much
It’s too little
I’m little but I can still see
There must be some greater future for me
With a wife, kids, grandkids
Family
Valentine’s Day is just one day in a year
But I’m still here…
I’m still alone
And I’d like to take a loan
From the heart bank
My heart’s blank
And if the check bounces I guess I’m in debt
And the interest hasn’t really gotten me yet
But still I’ll keep trying
Because here I’m on the edge of living and dying
The social aspect to romance
Is at a glance
Just a play of words and an exchange of faces
Of phrases and praises
But don’t mind me, I’m gonna be
The Fortune 500 CEO of Romance International baby
And you’ll see
And you’ll know
That this lonely heart, will have a platinum card to show
That my love is worth it’s weight in gold
But if you want it now, take it, I’m sold
