Anna and Zack

I'm not a good storyteller... or story writer. I prefer developing characters to themes and I think you'll understand what I mean when you read this short story I wrote to impress (read as make allegory for a relationship) a girl.

Anna and Zack

So there once was a girl named... Anna
She was loved by everyone and had many friends
She was perfect in nearly every way
But had one terrible flaw
She was modest... Impossibly modest
Whenever someone said nice things about her, she'd pout and say "Nonsense, I'm ugly and stupid."
Everyone wondered why
She was like this up until she was 16
Then she met a boy
His name was... Zack
He wasn't terrible smart or good looking, but he was a kind boy
He found Anna funnier and nicer than all the other girls
But he couldn't stand when she put down his compliments
She once said she was so stupid that he looked like Einstein in comparison, always giving him this look that showed she really believed it
It made him sadder each time
Finally, the next time she denied his adoration, he broke down... crying
He said "Anna, I don't understand how someone so perfect can't see themselves like EVERYONE else did"
She said "You are a terrible liar, you are the perfect one."
He looked at her, tears in his eyes, saying "Anna, you say I'm smart and good looking... but smart people are not perfect and neither are good looking people. Even then, I'm neither. I make mistakes... a lot and I'm about to make the biggest of my life."
Anna walked to him, she had the strangest look in her eyes, like she was confused or tired. She said "What?"
He whispered in her ear, quietly.
Her eyes shot wide open, she began to cry... "But why? You are so wonderful and I'm so terrible. Why?"
He backed away from her. He said "If I can't show the most perfect girl in the world how impossibly amazing she is, then I can never speak to another girl again."
He walked away, stopping once or twice and looking back.
Anna continued to cry and wondered what it was that made everyone so blind to how awful she was.
Zack left town that day, no one heard from him again.
Anna never understood why people loved her and refused to date anyone after. She died, just as perfectly as she lived.

The end.

The best way to write a story I feel (but what do I know), is to add the most important parts after the story has finished.

Zack's Whisper

I have never known what it’s like to be perfect
Never known what it feels like
But I have a pretty good idea of what it looks like
It looks a lot like you
Tell me, what is your definition of perfect?
Mine is impossible
Just like you
You, who is flawless in every way and still... cracked
Still showing a scar only you can see
Where is it?
Tell me
As long as I can’t see it, I can’t love you
Because you lie to me
Since you won’t admit you’re perfect
I will do my best to believe you
I will find out the truth
I will go somewhere
Go anywhere
Everywhere
Until I find someone who is more perfect
More flawless
More... impossible than you
And if I do, then I’ll come back
